I was talking to Matt last night about the uncomfortable fascist tendencies that have come about ever since that 9-11 thing happened. In an application of perhaps the only thing I learned in history class last semester (The only thin I hadn’t previously known, really.) I put the pieces into place.
Our country, right or wrong sentiment, check.
Father figure for a leader, check. (Wait, Andy, nobody actually calls Bush 'dad' 'cept for his kids, but nobody called Hitler the same, and he was still a father-figure. It's a 'do what I say, it's for your own good' thing going. And no, I'm not comparing Bush to Hitler; it's too reflexive and tends to cloud the facts. I prefer to insult his policy without reference to similar historical occurrences. *Cough* Spanish-American War *Cough*)
Nationalism as politics, check. (Eat Freedom Fries, you cheese-eating surrender monkeys! - see?)
Militarism and extremism. The political process might not completely be subverted, but the attitude in the states is spot-on. Also, the corporation is in league with government - another sign of a fascist state.
You know, also a lot of burgeoning similarities to theocracy, oligarchy, plutocracy, and lots of other "racy's" that don't have anything to do with democracy. I'm jus' saying, is all.
